Dutch Schultz Joins Volt Telecom Group as Vice President, Construction West Division

  Dutch Schultz

Corona, CA – Volt Telecom Group is very excited to announce the addition of Dutch Schultz, Vice President - Construction West Division to our operations management team. Dutch brings with him 28 years of telephony management experience. As VP Construction West, Dutch will oversee all operations of outside plant construction and engineering (aerial, substructure, underground and direct-buried construction services) as well as copper and fiber splicing in the Western U.S.

“Dutch is an effective, hands-on manager with a proven track record of delivering best-in-class results while maintaining profit margins on all of his projects,” said Chuck Scott, Chief Operating Officer, Volt Telecom Group. “His knowledge stems from learning this business from the ground up, giving him a solid foundation on which to implement process improvements and deliver optimal customer service. His high-energy enthusiasm and passion for this work will be a welcome addition to our team.”

Prior to Volt Telecom Group, Dutch was with Verizon (and legacy GTE) for 28 years; most recently as Director Net- work Engineering and Planning - West Coast Region. Dutch was responsible for 690 employees who met all wire line network needs in CA, WA, OR, ID, NV and AZ as well as the communication requirements of 6 million customers, including the Near Out-of-Franchise areas of Washington State and California. He also was responsible for the capital program expenditures for the same area.

Dutch began his career at GTE in 1981 in California. He held positions of increasing responsibility beginning with cable splicer while earning his degree. While Structured System Analysis and Design or Quantitative Methods may not have been hot topics with some of the crew, his fellow employees respected his drive for education and ability to be a quick learner. As Dutch progressed in the company, these same crewmates would competitively vie for positions on the crews that Dutch managed. Some of these projects included ICGS in CA and HI, as well as international projects in Canada and South America.

“I have always believed in learning as much as possible about the companies I worked for, so I purposely took a variety of positions that would challenge me,” said Dutch. “After my stint working outside the country, I returned to the U.S. to manage projects like CyberPop, Flexani, and the initial rollout of DSL to the first 300 offices. I then accepted a position as Director - Engineering & Operations Southern Region BBN / Genuity, giving me the experience to manage large, mutli-disciplined teams in multiple states and regions.”

Dutch returned to Verizon as Director IT Business Development, where he gained insight into back-end telephony systems and began long-term business relationships with the CIOs of the major industry players. He then was promoted to Director FTTP Program Management West where he built his management team and refreshed the organization. His team managed the merger of two former regions, at the same time increasing efficiency by regionalizing management and processes.

Dutch is a graduate of Loyola University in Los Angeles, California, and he has completed graduate work at California Lutheran University, Southern Methodist University, and Darden School of Business, University of Virginia.

Dutch will be working out of our Helicopter location in Corona, CA. He can be reached at:
